🍬 Candyfloss Kisses Glitter Brush Pen

I want to say I am a huge fan of CoC, I own everything they've created and exclusively colour with their books/sheets. I'm obsessed with the Butter books and their bleedproof products, but I also own all the old books in blending paper. I colour a lot and know how to use brush pens.

So these new glitter pens have been a huge disappointment! On the videos they look phenomenal, and if you were just colouring a huge page with no lines they would be great. But there are so many issues with the pens and when you go on the community group to ask for tips, it kind of feels like you're being gaslighted and told it's your fault/user error. I have used all of the techniques suggested to me, including dropping the ink onto a palette, picking up excess ink with blotting paper, etc etc.

I will say the most positive thing about these pens is the colour payoff; especially the black and the yellow. They go down super opaque and lovely, I would use them again. Butters sugar cubes is also brilliant (until it rubs off)

So here is a list of the issues I've experienced using these pens, and from the discussions on the community group I'm not the only one.

1. The pens themselves are MESSY. You have to shake them to get the glitter to disperse which makes the ink go all over the inside of the cap/flood the nib, which means when you open them the ink goes everywhere. I have had multiple colourings ruined by splotches of ink, as well as it going all over my clothes and face when it explodes everywhere. It has been suggested by many the best way to use the pens is by putting drops of the ink into a palette, but when squeezing the pen to get the ink to drop, the ink bubbles up and again goes everywhere, they are super messy.
2. The glitter is inconsistent and honestly not that good. You can't use the pen as a normal pen, because it just looks like normal brush pen ink with no glitter. If you drop the ink onto the page then it all stays in the area where you dropped it, making a super glittery patch and the rest not that glittery. Even when dropping the ink into the palette (apparently the best way to ensure ink is glittery) after shaking the pen to ensure the glitter is mixed in, some of the colours did not have much glitter pay off. Some are great; some are meh. When the ink dries down, for most of the pens, it genuinely just looks like normal ink unless you put a flash on it and even then some of the pens just aren't that glittery.
3. The brush on the pen floods; which means if you try to use the pen, it will lay down so much ink that it bleeds everywhere and ruins your page. I have used paper to soak up the extra ink, but this is wasteful and often causes the ink to go everywhere and ruins the page. I have also tried blotting the pen, but on some of the pens the ink just floods the nib so quickly it doesn't make a difference. Meaning you can't use the pen at all and have to use an external brush - which means an extra brush and palette; which defeats the point of a pen. The amount of ink that comes out is so thick that it soaks right through the blending paper and ruins the other side too.
4. Some of the pens, are super dry and the ink doesn't come through at all, unless you squeeze it, at which point you get a huge drop of ink and then it immediately dries up again. The flow is super inconsistent.
5. The glitter comes off really easily. I spent ages colouring something, however, as your hand touches the page while colouring, the glitter comes straight off the page; leaving just the colour of the ink. Which defeats the point of the pens entirely. Unlike the constellation pens (which I have multiple packs of and absolutely swear by) the glitter doesn't mix in with the ink as it is put down, so just comes straight off. Which means, especially you can't even tell you've used glittery pens, which is a big issue with Butter's sugar cubes as it means the area just looks white like you didn't colour it.

All together, these pens have been a huge disappointment. It is such a good idea, but I would guess rushed which has resulted in the many issues - the flow of the ink is definitely the biggest as it makes the pens impossible to use.

I don't think the pens are overpriced, as I believe the production is probably expensive due to the high quality components (as explained in one of Millie's recent videos), however, I don't think they are worth spending £7 each on. I have spent probably £150 on these pens and I really wish I hadn't. I'm still trying to use them because I bought so many, and duplicates too because I believed in Millie's products, but I hate every colouring I do with them because it ends up a mess.

I want to reiterate that I love CoC, I spend most of my money here and will continue to do so as most of their products are 10/10. However, I don't believe these products hit the mark and think you should spend your money on their other products which are 100 times better.

The glitter brush pens are an absolute dream! I just love them. The colours just pop and they are the most glittery pens ever!! Also because they’re water based you can mix the colours on a palette like paint and make a new shade/colour for your art work. My favourite pens even if they are a bit messy 😅 also love the mix & match bundle meaning you can choose your favourites and not waste colours/pens you won’t use. Well done Millie & the team, pulled it out the bag again 🫶🏻

I love that you can use them like a paintbrush when you just want low energy colouring but can also use them with a palette or drop it on the page for a more glittery and fun experience!

Beautiful colour which pops on the page. It can take some practice making sure you don't get over spill, but someone has suggested using a pallet which i think will help!

I love the colour and as long as you squeeze some onto a pallet or something similar and pick up from that I found it easier to control the flow… I do however think they are rather expensive for what they are.
